New this week at Pueblo House(s)

This was a busy week for all of us at Pueblo House.   Starting with Scott & Donna from “Edible Planet”, who picked up & delivered with his truck, 200 fence boards that were donated by McComb Lumber Mill (big thanks to them (AMY & others) for sharing our vision).  We’ll definitely be having a fence building party only to be followed by a fence mural party for both Pueblo House and our newest addition the Media House.

John Camilli and Chris Rudy cleaned and organized the living room & basement at Pueblo House.  Now you can actually find tools and things.  I’ll admit it got a little out of hand with two houses being worked on and not knowing where things were placed.

A new wheel for the wheelbarrow….finally!2015-09-22 12.13.41 Mike put the swing back together….yippee.  Love that swing! Too bad Kayla chewed one seat.2015-09-22 12.13.48

Then it was off to the Rawlings Library to take in the sights and sounds of “Makerspace” as we watched 3-D printing take place.   The organizers of this wonderful event have agreed to 3-D print the chess pieces for our checkerboard/park when it comes to fruition on 4th St.

We had a new volunteer join Pueblo House.   A.J. has a creative flair too and is looking forward to helping with murals, organizing and planning the Halloween party on the 31st.  Welcome A.J. and thank you to his mom Virginia for bringing him out to meet us.

Pecha Kucha has best night yet!

It was a great time at the Pecha Kucha tonight. The guests/presenters are always so interesting. This is our second one attended and they hold only 3 or 4 per year.

Tonight we gave a presentation (on all we’re doing on 5th St.) along with 6 others. Turns out the lady that spoke tonight (Sally) was the one who put in the window box outdoor library, that I took pictures of a while back.  Cyndi and I were trying to replicate it here on the east side. Small world! Then a surprise when she was giving a window frame away (as part of her presentation) so someone could start another. We got it!  Sweet…now the library is set to go for sure. Maybe this weekend in between halloween decorating?

Big thank you to Marcel for taking the pictures and movies tonight. We’ll put a short video together soon so we can show the great work presented this evening. (Janet)

Pecha Kucha at Rawlings Library

What a way to spend an evening. We went to our first Pecha Kucha which is a Japanese name for “chit chat’ and Pueblo is one of 700 cities worldwide who hosts such an event. 5 people got up and talked about various subjects. It’s 20 slides max @ 20 seconds per slide so it goes rather quickly, which is good. The topics can range from anything you like. The first speaker, Michael, was someone who’s been in conch blowing most of his life. Amazing what can be played on a conch shell. Then a really funny guy talked about Pueblo pros & cons, after that a lady spoke about “Take 5” and how to exercise or at least get moving for 5 minutes 5 times a day. After a break and munchies, beer + wine we heard a lady talk about co-op business, which frankly gave us ideas. Then up last was a young lady who spoke about “Pinterest” and all it does. Quite a fun time, followed by all of us and many others going to a friend of Louis Burke’s who hosted a desert night. Yummy! Many calories later we headed home.
